I enquired of MWS as to the recommended method for weight attachment. Didn’t really get a definitive answer other than knock ons might be a little better technically but if a customer wants stick ons, then that’s what they are given! So at the end of the day, the proof will be in the performance when driving. My experience over the years is that imbalance often seems to show up at around 60mph. And, maybe in my opinion, the wider the tyre the more critical the position of stick ons might be? Dunno really!

Hammer on weights are evil, the steel bit bites through the finish, and the lead bit eventually reacts with stainless If the tyre monkey knows what he's doing it's possible to use inner stick-on, they can be placed inner outboard and inner inboard on the rim to give proper balance on a dynamic machine Pressed steel, alloy and posh stainless are all doable, so don't be fobbed off Another option are Dynabeads https://www.dynabeads.co.uk/ self install in the comfort of your own garage

I've been using a variation of the dynabeads here in the USA. Work great. no issues. Only thing is not to have a low profile tire. The beads need room to spin about. when the tires are cold, you may feel a little out of balance. Let them warm up and adjust your speed. it will self correct. Also, you may need to add/subtract bead weight for your application. Another neat fact. If you change out tires, you simply bag the beads and reuse in the new tire!

I engaged MWS some years back and they improved 90% of the wheel wobble but they were quite pricey through doing all four wheels after initially saying that just two were out of balance. My mistake was in trying to tighten the spokes a little which resulted in breaking the air seal and having to constantly repressure the tyres. MWS did solve this and I recommend that if you have tubeless tyres don't mess with the spokes. I have previously tried a crude DIY balancing of the wheels by turning a hardwood cylinder to the exact size that fits the splines and balancing the wheel by suspending on a couple of spigots extending from each end of the cylinder. Its a slow process but works towards achieving an approximate balance (imperfect).

Hi. Can anyone recommend a garage who can balance my wire wheels - Central Belt of Scotland? Secondly - Can the balance weights go on the inside of the wheels so I dont have the look of the wheels spoiled or damage to the rims with bang on weights? The classic car specialist nearest to me insist that the weights must go on the outside of the wheel. The wheels are stainless steel and look fantsatic on the car so the last thing I want is to stick a bunch of weights on the outside of them! Thanks for your help So I have now changed my tyres from 195/15/60 to 196/15/65 which I am very happy with. I had hammer-ons previously but decided to go with stick-ons this time. Looking at the rim profile, I was uncertain the there was enough dead flat area on the outers to ensure the weights would stick long-term. So, went for the inner rims. I stood with my friendly fitters whilst they did the balancing ( using my borrowed cones) and they easily got them down to 0. Driving it since, everything feels perfect.

Thanks for the info. I decided to go without weights on the outside of the wheels as I could barely feel any evidence of out of balance wheels. The weights the garage fitted looked awful and only exacerbated any imbalance.

The weights the garage fitted looked awful and only exacerbated any imbalance. My previous set of tyres only had a single weight on one wheel, all the others were fine without. Luck of the draw as to how the tyre went on to the wheel when it was fitted.
