I just read the following on Mogwire -

".....Mr. Morgan predicted sales and production will more than double 2011 figures this year with 600- 700 of the new Trikes (up from an est. 40-50 last year), 200 Aero Supersports and Aero Coupe (up from an est. 25) and 500 Classics of which we have been told 150 will be the new Aero based neo-Plus 8 leaving 350 other cars that will presumably be trad models (down from an est. 650 in 2011). No reason was given for a drop in trad sales nor the sudden increase in Aero-type sales. The Aero's highest production year was in 2002. Mr. Morgan went on with some pride to speak on the newer Morgan buyers. With the change from vintage production to a modern retrocar assembly, most interest is now coming those 34 and under".

I love the Trad Morgan. The Aero leaves me cold but I do love the three-wheeler (they are really more "trad" than the Trads). I am pleased that Morgan are doing well but left feeling slightly insecure at the diminution of the Trad in Morgan's production figures. I hope our days aren't numbered sos

Don't put too much store in what you read on MogWire.

Part of the shift in emphasis is the unexpected number of orders for the 3W.
The new +8 has approximately 80 orders so far (factory source).

Cheers,

Do not be worried. The production of the trad seems to go though peaks.

The factory has limited resources and so needs to juggle the levels of productions for the various models. So apart from the Aero models and the M3W, I understand that there are over 80+ orders for the Aero chassis Classic, plus a good number of orders for the new 3.7 litre Roadster, and orders such as models like the +4 SS.

I hope you are not suggesting the new Plus8 is a traditional Classic! It's in a class of its own I think.

Very mischievous of Mogwire...there is a difference between sales and production. All it means is that there is a backlog of Three Wheeler production due to the delays last year and unexpected demand and demand for the Plus 8s and these are taking precedent over production of the traditional classics. There is only so much production the factory can do in a year and all it means is that the waiting times for the traditionals will increase....a bit like the old days really!

In this case I should not discredit Mogwire.

To be fair to Mogwire, he is only quoting from the Birmingham Post article linked by Stig.

Jays and A11OGE's comments make sense. There is a difference between production and sales and perhaps we will have to wait a bit longer for our Trads whilst Morgan satisfy the demand for three wheelers. Perhaps demand for the Trad is the same as it has always been. I can't see either the three wheeler or the Aero cutting into the Trad market - they appeal to different customers.

I think the new Plus 8 is really a hybrid Trad. I can't regard it as a Trad in the same way as a Plus 4, 4/4 or Roadster. Demand for the Plus 8 will probably erode some demand for the Roadster, but not much as the price differential is so great.

Don't think +8 would affect 3.7 Roadster sales .. completely different price brackets, bit like the price difference between a base SLK and an SL500.
