Plus 8 Diff?
Is this a Salisbury Diff as originally installed in a Plus 8?

That looks very familiar to the Salisbury fitted in my 1994 + 8 so yes.
My present 1999 + 8 has the BTR fitted and looks a lot different.

Yes your diff looks original.
Salisbury 7HA diffs were fitted to all Plus 4s, 4/4s and Plus 8s up to the early 1990s when GKN stopped making them. Plus 8s had the LSD fitted as standard.
7HAs were I understand fitted to other cars such as Maserati 3500GT and Mistral and I think early Reliant Scimiters and possibly Jaguar Mark 1s but I'm not completely sure on this last one.
Salisbury made a larger version of this axle, the 4HA. Other than being slightly larger, it looks the same. Morgan Plus 8 racers of the 1980s sometimes fitted this axle, sourced from a late Reliant Scimitar, in order to reliably take 300BHP produced by modified Rover engines. The 4HA was also a preferred route for rally-spec RWD Ford Escorts.
The Salisbury 4HA differential was fitted to all Jaguars of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s mostly in IRS form. This will mean that you should find expertise in Oz to rebuild your axle as the 4HA is simply a larger version of the 7HA.
From your perspective, once you've drained the oil and removed the rear cover and ascertained you have a problem (i.e. not sticking plates), if should be relatively easy to locate a specialist with the skills and experience to rebuild.
Please note: a BTR axle fitted to later Morgans will not be a direct replacement - it is too wide. One could consider shortening the axle casing as well as remachining the halfshafts by the required amount but that would rather a lot of hassle.
A final note to this long response. It is possible that the LSD clutch plates are sticking through lack of use. It is also possible that the axle has been rebuilt at some stage and had the torque bias increased (I did this on a rebuild as it was useful for racing). It sounds awful but does, if there's no mechanical fault, go away. Don't automatically think the worst but don't be surprised either.
I hope that this helps.
