From sun to snow

Spectacular, all day trip to Durness and back, the perfect tonic after the stress of spending an hour on a platform in Manchester Piccadilly, trying to get to the airport, while some poor sod decided life wasn’t worth living.

I do business in the rat race, but I would want to live there!

The roof was off the whole time, but what I thought would just be a quick shower, turned out to be a biblical hail storm😄. The stuff was an inch thick everywhere, including down my back, thank goodness the wipers stood up to the task. I stopped and chucked on the roof, but it was too late, everything was soaked.. Torrents of water gushed down the roads, making driving hazardous, then within a few miles, bang! Bright sunshine again.

I was still 150 miles from home yet, so roof off again and it all dried away.

That's a fair old round trip in one day. Good to see you got plenty of the typical North-West Highland blue skies even if there was a hint of hail in the air.
I was stuck working in the office in Aberdeen today, same again tomorrow but hopefully will get out for a blast later in the week.

It was a tad excessive Calum, I’m sure you know the feeling.....ach, it’s only another thirty miles to the next place, I’ll try that. And the ultimate temptation,
“ unsuitable for caravans” ....., generally means, twisty and steep, fantastic!

The coastal road from Lochinver has some of the steepest and tightest corners I’ve been on. So steep we’re the drops, I couldn’t see for the length of the bonnet.

I’m embarrassed to admit, I covered 575miles yesterday. My wife had gone to Edinburgh with her pal and my kids had plans of their own, so I made the best of the freedom.

For anybody with squeaky cars, I can tell you, thrashing it’s nuts off over bumpy, country roads and throwing it at full lock round corner after corner, irons them all out. My car has never run so well, at first I thought I’d gone deaf with the wind buffeting, but no, I washed it this evening and it really is creak and squeak free!

The wipers by the way, which had been playing up recently, worked well. All I’ve done to rectify, was to fiddle with the plugs, as advised by other TM ‘rs

A reminder of a trip 12-1/2 years ago, in my rather long 127" LR. The last year the dog was alive. He loved it, even though ailing.
The cottage in Drumbeg was in a beautiful location and the hound used to sit inside the garden fence watching the highland cattle. We had one run up to Durness and just around the corner for additional photos of the scenery and a frigate in for provisioning and crew changes.
I will get back up there, one day. Thanks for sharing those photos. thumbs
