yes, we are close to West Virginia.... but Taffy and Bill had never been to West Virginia, and the Shenandoah Valley is not in West Virginia.... but "life is old here"... the oldest mountains in NA and the "New River" is the oldest river in NA

I cannot imagine spending a winter in that cabin! Did they pack the openings with mud?

yes, the log cabins had large spaces between the logs which is then filled with chinking. Most likely mud in the old days or a mortar mix, The restored cabins use a flexible polymer as the normal expansion and contraction of the wood needs the flexibility. My wife noticed the cabin ONLY had a door and no windows!
