Hi,
I am changing the cylinder head gasket on my 1954 DHC, TR2 motor, which way up does the gasket go??, if my memory serves me right they used to be marked TOP, but the one I have has no markings at all. Is it important, does it matter?
Thanks, Tony

Hi Tony,
It does not matter, but even better buy an updated gasket from
Racetorations.co.uk or Bastuck.de they are the best, even on an old racer !
Look also on the TR Register Forum.

Cheers Rudy.

My factory TR 2 manual says: Sec. xxiii "Coat the combustion head gasket both sides with a coating of oil or grease and fit it to the block. The application of a sealing compound to both sides of this gasket is not recommended, as it tends to allow the cylinder sleeves to adhere to the gasket and lift with the head as it is moved, necessitating further dismantling of the engine to replace the figure of eight washers." No side is specified as up or top.
