Hello all, seems I have an engine monitor light showing. Have had it into service center, they plugged in and tell me it's an error code that says both banks on my ford cyclone 3.7 motor are running lean. They also said it happens alternately one bank then the other. They have checked all the obvious points sender, hoses, etc. They have contacted Morgan and got the response that they have never had this issue before and just left it at that. I am not sure if when driving and when accelerator is pushed down I seem to get a wee pause sort of like a gasp then another go (noticeable but not serious) is this common or should it accelerate right to the top of rev range? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks Randall (New Zealand) Ps have done 7000 km

I'm not familiar with that engine but it sounds to me as though you have a faulty or badly adjusted throttle position sensor. There are also other sensors that effect the fuel air mixture. The fact that it is happening on both sides would tend to indicate one of the sensors that effects the amount of fuel supplied. This could be air pressure, temperature, mass air flow or throttle position. I'm surprised a competent service center can't locate the problem.

Check the exhaust isn't blowing at the silencer joints and check for loose clamps

Make sure the right Catalytic Converter/s are fitted. My 2012 +4 had the wrong one fitted and therefore thought the engine was producing incorrect emission levels and warned me by showing engine warning light. I reported it to Morgan immediately and on a recent trip to Williams had the converter replaced (under warranty)and the car checked. I appreciate that's not maybe as simple for you but I'm sure there's a way to check part numbers etc.
Hope it gets sorted.

Hi Randall
I don't have the engine lights showing on my 3.7. But I do have the slight "gasp" when I press on the accelerator - but no appreciable puse before the acceleration kicks in. I think this is normal but other 3.7 owners can chip in on this.

Good to see the factory have leapt on this and are being supportive.
Is there another 3.7 owner in NZ? I'm wondering if you could swap ECU's (they're easy to swap out). Having said that, I doubt the ECU would suddenly start misbehaving.
Do you have an OBD II scanner? Or have you looked up the fault codes?
A scanner is not expensive, might be worth getting one - clearing this code and seeing if develops again.
Can you pull a plug and take a look at its condition?
Could it be an oxygen sensor? Would that cause a lean code?
Do you drive at altitude?
Sorry - I'm just firing thoughts at you.

My ECU on my +4 a Rover T16 engine had an intermittent fault affecting the idle. Swapping it sorted it.
