Thought I would share a write up for the LED headlamp upgrade I recently completed on my three wheeler. After lots of research reading way too many online reviews and posts on other forums and 2 false starts I finally completed the project. While it took me a collection of months of research and one misguided attempt, if you follow the instructions below you can actually do it in about 30 minutes using only a single allen wrench and a bit of electrical tape! Hope you all enjoy the write up.
Background:the Morgan uses a very standard 7" round reflector and bulb that utilizes a h4 connector. the combination of the 7" reflector and the H4 connector was what turned me on to the idea of upgrading the lights as these are very standard and commonly used sizes/interfaces. Modern day Jeep Wranglers as well as lots motorcycles including most Harley Davidsons utilize this same size lamp and connector which makes for a robust aftermarket. It's also worth noting that this upgrade should work on the plus 4 and plus 8 morgan's that have the 7" light (i'd double check on the h4 connector but i'm pretty sure).

I came to the conclusion that either the Truck-Lite 27270C LED lamp or the JW Speaker 8700 evolution (great company but confusing name as speaker is the last name of the founder) were the best choices. For a detailed write up regarding these two as well as other alternatives check out this very well done thread
here . Testing on various forums had shown both to be wildly superior to the halogen lights they were replacing as well as other options in the marketplace.
The JW Speaker 8700 was shown to be the victor when compared against the Truck-Lite but it was also quite a bit more expensive so it really came down to how much money you were willing to spend. The truck-lites are about $240 each and the JW speakers are $375 each. This led me to chose the Truck-Lite 27270C initially as it was still high performing and was $275 cheaper than a pair of the JW Speakers.
False Start: Truck-Lite 27270CI purchased the Truck-Lite 27270C on amazon for about $240 each and after putting my son to bed the day they arrived in the mail I scurried down to the garage to get to work on my new upgrade.
Off came the headlight bezel on the morgan with a simple allen key. Inside you see the stock bulb that's attached to the reflector as well as the tiny driving light bulb that is below the main bulb inside the reflector. The reflector held on by clips that are wedged between the reflector and the chrome bezel. With a screw driver and some force you get the clips off which releases to reflector from the bezel. the existing light simply unplugs from the h4 connector. The small driving light is connected via a separate wire and we'll get to that later.

I Immediately plugged in my shinny new Truck-Lite LEDs and turned on the lights to revel in my success. The victory was short lived when I put the light inside the bezel to put everything back together. Turns out the rim of the Truck-Lite LED light sits about an inch from the front of the light. In jeep applications this is a non issue as the light sits recessed in the front grill of the car so the extra bit sticking out isn't noticeable. In the instance of the morgan the lights sit in a very visible set of chrome buckets that are on display for the world to see and the almost 1 inch of black housing sticking out looks like hell
All plugged in and no where to go

Sadly it was getting late and I realized I wasn't going to be finishing this project that night so I put back my stock lamps so i could drive the car the next day.
Long story short after ordering a new set of chrome buckets and talking with a fabricator about trying to remedy the situation with custom mounts it became clear that i'd spend as much if not more on getting the Truck-Lites to fit than I would if I were to just buy the more expensive and better performing JW Speaker 8700 evolutions. With that realization I returned the truck-lites and ordered a set of the JW Speakers.
Ok I'm realizing this write up is getting wrong so I'll cut to the chase.
Success: JW Speaker 8700 evolutionThe JW Speaker 8700 evolution lights are simply stunning to look at both with the lights turned on as well as completely off. They are also incredibly well put together. To install them I just undid the bezel on the morgan as I had before, unplugged the stock lamp and removed the clips from the bezel that holds the light in place.
The JW Speaker about to meet it's new home
Remember how I mentioned that little driving light (aka the tiny little bulb that is wired separately from the main headlamp)? It's no longer needed and since i didn't want to cut any wires I just removed the bulb and wrapped the entire thing in electrical tape just incase water were to get in to the headlight housing and get to the open socket.
Taped up driving lamp socket after bulb was pulled out
With that out of the way I plugged the new JW Speaker 8700 in to the H4 connector and turned the car on to test the light. worked like a charm and looked amazing.
Before putting the lamps back in their new home I decided I'd take on an additional project with a little dynamat i had lying around the garage from another project that I need to do a write up on. I covered the insides of the headlight buckets with it as I've had rattles and creaks from them in the past and figured now was a better time than ever to fix one of my many rattles on my trike.
dyanamatted headlight bucket
For those of you who don't know what dynamat is, it's a sound deadening material that you to stick to metal surfaces to reduce noise that comes from vibrations. the car stereo guys use it like crazy as do high end hot rod and restoration shops as it really does a nice job at quieting down a car. you can read more about it
here To put things back together you use the metal clips that we had previously removed that were holding the light in place and re-wedged them against the new light and to the inside of the chrome bezel. Ask anyone who's dealt with these types of clips and they will cringe as they know how much of a pain they are to put back in place. It's totally doable but just know it requires some patience and a little bit of elbow grease. I ended up only using 2 or 3 per light vs the 4 that are on there from the factory as I ran out of patience and the light seemed more than snug. I now realize I never took any pics of the jw speaker with the clips attached so you'll have to use your imagination as it was late as hell the night i did it and was just so happy to have the damn thing working after the whole truck-lite debacle.
once the bezel is attached to the light simply set the light back in the chrome bucket and reattach the the 1 screw on top that keeps the ring on.
HUZZAH!!!!The lights look amazing and perform even better. I'll try to take some night shots of them but until then you'll have to trust me when i say they are a HUGE improvement both in output as well as quality of light. It's also worth noting the lights meet all safety standards in the states as well as abroad so there's no worry about law enforcement.
Another benefit to them is they draw very little power due to the efficiencies of LED's which means you don't have to do any rewiring as you would with installing high powered halogens, not to mention the fact they they don't get hot.
So while there's nothing wrong with the stock lights I will say that if you've got about $750 laying around and about 30 minutes of spare time these are a huge improvement in both performance and looks over stock.
Below are some pics of the car finished that I took on a recent trip down the California coast last weekend. I'll be adding more pics later but these should get everyone started.

I bought them from Discountfleetsupply.com and paid $715 for a pair of them with shipping included and had a great experience with these guys. Please note I have no affiliation with them other than being a happy customer.
