I would guess that the 'belt and braces' top bracket has to be welded to the upright, and there are safety issues involved.

I would suspect that toe changes will still occur, but they would now be neglible. It would be interesting to have the toe change measured with the new spacer in place?

More to the point, I believe that at least two people forwarded design drawings and ideas to MMC quite some time ago, which are almost identical to the spacer now in production. I can't help wondering if they have received a letter of thanks and a free kit?

I spent quite some time at the factory yesterday collecting my car after it had been there having the seemingly incurable pulling brakes fixed. Apparently mine is the only car to have suffered this particular problem. Whilst at the factory some other faults (noisy compensator for one, which were undetected by me or the dealer) were also fixed.

The Comfort Kit was only fitted after my initial test drive to check everything was ok. The brakes were fine and the car was much quieter than it had ever been, but the bump steer was quite noticeable, especially so as I hadn't driven it in a while. Having seen the Comfort Kit on some cars in production, I requested it be fitted to mine. I also tried out a Brooklands steering wheel, which is wonderful compared to the crappy standard wheel. It certainly enhanced the cockpit of my car and added further pleasure to the driving experience. Was working out to be a more expensive day than I was anticipated

I was told that the Comfort Kit was only to be fitted at the factory in order to ensure quality control. It is pretty much a bolt on job (no welding), but I guess the tracking will need to be set and of course it needs to be safe.

With regards to David G comment about a change in attitude, I fully agree. I've had a few serious faults with my car (bevel box failure on day one, cylinder head gasket leak and pulling brakes) and was ready to throw in the towel on M3W ownership, but following a frank and honest meeting and the much improved quality of my car I have changed my opinion.

Give them a chance is all I can say....and before you ask - No, I wasn't bought off

Indeed, I would like to echo Bigpoppapumps sentiments, and long may the factorys' new attitude last. It's the only way to retain happy and more important, loyal, owners. Whilst I would not wish anyone, especially Mr. Morgan, ill, if his leaving has allowed the management to effect such a turnaround, one can only speculate on how he managed to last so long in his position on the board.

As a matter of interest, how is the new upper bracket fitted and what does it do? I thought it might be welded to the upright to stop the chance of the spacer moving, due to the leverage?

I am of the opinion that the factory want to fit the kit for more than one reason,one is the safety aspect of fitting the kit the tracking is very critical on the M3W and home mechanics would have difficulty in setting the track up near enough to drive the car to a vehicle tracker.Two add the cost of the components together plus the time to fit and set track etc and I think the factory is giving us a good deal.Plus its great to have a reason to visit the factory.
This is just my opinion from observing how the job was carried out.

Whilst I am sure the factory may want to fit the kit to UK cars, what arrangements are they making with overseas dealers to fix parts to exported cars?

In the USA this would be a recall and the cost would be on the mfg.
