I have a 2009 2L +4 with a Duratec engine. The gearbox has two potential oil fill plugs on the left side. An upper plug, located at the very top of the box (but still on the side of the box) with a large hex Allen Key, and a lower plug with yellow paint on it (smaller dia. hole)located approx. 2/3rds of the way down the side. Please could you advise the correct hole to be used for re-filling the gearbox oil. Also does anyone know the size of the Allen key needed to remove the plug. Thanks

Is it a Ford Type 9? If so there is no drain plug. I think the Mx5 box appeared later than 2009. I would expect the filler to be no higher that roughly half way.
Someone will know!

It could be the Ford MT75 gearbox....this was fitted prior to the MX5 box.  The yellow painted plug is the filler.

Thanks for posting this photo John, very useful for knowing the location of the filling and drain plugs, and for the handbrake warning light switch, etc.
