The offside wing gets very hot over the cat, and in fact the underseal goes shiny and wet when the cat is hot. So I played around with some offcuts of aluminium, and some woven heat barrier, and some 'Reflect-a-Cool' and this is what happened: A simple rectangle, approx 8" x 9" bent over the cat. With Reflect a Cool on the outside. Woven mat on the inside: Securing legs bolted on and insulated: The cat with a lick of high temp paint where it shows. It works well, but the wing still gets warm, so I may try spacing the shield a bit further from the cat surface.

Dave, I am sure an air gap would help to insulate this further.

John, yes in pic 3 you can see where I tried to space it out a bit with raised blocks, but not enough.........

My Zetec has a heat shield- not as high tech as Peter's, just mild steel, with an air gap. Gerry.

With Aldermog it isn't the wing temperature that worries me, it is the heat soak through to the footwell. With a cat on each side and the gearbox in the middle it gets WARM! The passenger can at least move their feet away, the poor old pilot can't. We need these!

Very neat Dave. Can you attach the thermal mat to the underside of the wing?
