We are up at the holiday house in the mountains above Lake Como. It is at 1,000 metres and normally in August it is a great escape from the summer heat. At the moment we are watching the front yard gradually turn into a lake and since that 'lake' is in front of the gate I don't think I could get the Morgan out even if I wanted to. I am sitting here wearing a jumper and we have even lit the fire on 3 occasions. Tonight we will probably turn on the central heating for a while. It is a total disaster for those that rely on tourism for a living. In some areas there is only 20% of the normal number of visitors. I just looked up the archive of weather for July and August for this area. Since the 1st of July we have had 31 days with rain and of those there were thunder storms on 24 days. It has to be some sort of record

Glad it wasn't this year that we drove over the alps to Como and Grada.

Erm here in Sardinia looking for ways to escape the occasional 40°C lots of twisty empty roads but towns would be a challenge in a Mog the Fiat 500 we have barely gets through some back alleys.
What is a jumper or rain?

No sunshine on the economic front either. source BBC news "Italy's economy has fallen back into recession, latest official figures show, after contracting for two quarters in a row. GDP, the value of all the country's goods and services, shrank 0.2% in the second quarter of the year. The surprisingly weak number follows a 0.1% contraction in the first quarter. Economists consider two quarters of shrinking GDP means a country is in recession. At the end of last year the country appeared to be emerging from recession, growing fractionally in the last three months. But the Bank of Italy said last month that GDP had contracted by 9% since the global financial crisis began in 2007."
