With NO help at all from Morgan Motors, Aero Racing (neither returned emails or calls) and no help from Quaife, who did return emails but would not help, I was able to rebuild or should I say re-bearing my Bevel Drive Box. I can't believe how quite it is, I can now hear every rattle and creak in the body.

Impressive stuff. Good quality bearings, correct clearances and preloads must make for a quiet bevel box, it can be done. You fitted the NVH kit your self as well?

Great result, but it's a pity you didn't get any technical support from Morgan or quaife.

I used Timken bearings and races to replace all the factory parts. I found that pinion bearings were way to loose with very little preload, the old bearings and races told the tail. Gear mesh was good so I used the old depth measurements. Also drilled and tapped the top of the box for a fill plug, filling the box on a bench you'll find that it holds more fluid than you think. I also installed the "update" for the box mount, next up is the Centa drive.

Very ambitious project. You should consider publishing a repair guide for this.

Any chance you could share the Timken part numbers?

Did you change the input shaft seal? Mine is leaking and would like to take care of it. Might be a good opportunity to quite the bearings as well.

Did you run the BB without the isolation kit to get a baseline on the noise reduction with just the new bearings?

Well done indeed, great work and a great result. A more detailed write-up would be fascinating, and I don't even own a 3-wheeler.

Excellent news...!

What you write seems to suggest that either there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the box but they are built to a price and as a result the bearings don't last or the lack if a cush drive between wheel and sprocket causes load reversals in the bevel box that shorten bearing life.

Time will tell. If your box fails again then my cush drive theory is supported, if it doesn't then I'm probably wrong.

Very impressive engineering! As this problem must be a major issue for MMC you would think (hope) they would engage with you and discover how you have resolved the issue. Sales over customer service yet again, how sad. There must be potential for you to set up a repair service, I think you would have rather a lot of customers ;-).

Great work! notworthy Now you can really enjoy your car.

I love the M3W, but why should I buy one from a company with such awful support ???

Seconded. I've rebuilt a two speeder bevel box, but I had the advantage that when it was done, it wasn't far to go to get an expert opinion to check all was assembled correctly and with the right play.

Take my hat off to you, and fingers crossed the real issue was just poor quality control with the original assembly.
