I had some concern engine running early August I decided to change the fuel filter, I'll buy it from a shop that bmw 100m from my workplace 90.50 euros with 25% discount, it is expensive because the fuel pressure regulator (3.5 bar) is integrated in the fuel filter sets I do not regret the change because after shaking his flowed like black ink, the filter had just over two years and more than 30.000km, bmw recommended change every two years on the X5 3.0i-4.4i-4.6i-4.8i and mounted also on land rover range rover 4.4i.
Since I bought for future mounting external Walbro fuel pump and Bosch fuel filter screwed connector-type and adjustable external regulator for the fuel pressure.

Same symptoms as when my pump quit. Made a groaning noise on restart, engine check lite came on, reduced fuel pressure at the rail. A new pump cured all.

Matty , I had the same problem , I banged various bits and it started , when it happened a second time Krazy Horse tracked it down to a poor earth to the pump .

I wonder why fuel pumps are failing

I like probably everyone else on this forum runs at least 1 daily driver with fuel injection and I have never known a fuel pump to fail, ever. Even with high miilages over tens of years.

So To sum up,

I now have to expect the crank pulley bolt to exit through the front cover thereby increasing the ventilation for the now non existent cam belt.

And fuel pump to withdraw its labour with little or no warning.

Thank goodness I have the HD rectifier.

Just what I need with 1500 miles ahead of me next week in Switzerland.
