I've got a bent lower tube in the cross-head/subframe on my '70 4/4. I don't know what the tubing material is. Can I use heat to bend it back? Is it easier to just replace the lower tube sections? Are the castings on the ends of the tubes brazed on, or welded on? What's the best way to salvage the castings if I replace the tube?

I repaired My lower crosshead tube by cold bending it back as straight as I could get it and than drive a 1" steel tube into the crosshead tube to strengthen it. In one case I drove a 1" round bar into the crosshead. I used a heavy sledge for this. Not for the light hearted.

I'm hoping to see Ron this weekend at our local club event. I was planning on asking him, but thought I'd find out what I could before hand.

I searched the GoMog site last night and couldn't find anything. I'll keep digging.

I managed to bend my crosshead a few years back. I only noticed it when servicing the front end and fitting some bearings to the kingpins. I spoke to my friend and higher Morgan guru David Rutherford who advised me to cold bend it straight.
You'll need to strip everything off the affected side. You can get it very close by eye using a light at the other end of the tube. Use the kingpin for the vertical plane and the tie-bar as the horizontal plane reference points.
How much is the bend on your car? By the way, the crosshead fittings are brazed not welded.
