Thought I would drop this into a post because it may be useful and I don’t think that it’s that well documented, it’s certainly not in my user manual.
I needed to program two more ignition immobiliser transponders chips. There is a useful bit of functionality embedded in the Ford ECU that allows you to this providing you have two working keys with chips (not cloned chips).
This is what worked for me:-
Insert 1st good key and turn ignition on then off. Take key out.
Quickly insert 2nd good key and turn ignition on and then off again and take key out.
Quickly insert another key with a blank chip and turn ignition on. Wait a while (say 30 secs ) and take key out.
Now the new chip should be programmed and ready to go.
My car uses ID60 transponder chips.
Here is where I purchased the blank chips (they are the Ford glass type).
And just for additional information my key blanks are from a Disco/Freelander.
One thing that might be worth considering is programming a spare chip to hide somewhere in the car (away from the ignition!). It’s a known problem that chips can fall out of the key fobs. If it went unnoticed it has the potential to seriously spoil your day out
