We took delivery of our new 4/4 from BHM yesterday. After three and half years of life with the easy up hood I’ve gone back to the trtaditional variety. It may not be as practical but I do think it does look far better!! I’ve also returned to a spare wheel, which if nothing else gives better access to the rear of the car.
We’re really pleased with the car and as with the two pervious 4/4’s we’ve been fortunate to be able to purchase new, seeing the it in build and chatting to the Factory workforce was a great experience and one I would heartily recommend to anyone contemplating doing this.

Now having said that on this particular occasion the gloss was taken off the experience for us due to the treatment we received from the MMC.
Unfortunately for us I made the grave mistake of changing my mind regarding the specification and received a £1000 financial slap on the wrist by the Commercial Department.
The changes requested – there were three: paint, carpet edging and an upgrade to mohair were submitted to the Factory the next working day after the original submission, well in advance of the build start date.
Interestingly the changes requested actually meant we were actually spending a more than before but it seems I should count myself lucky we were not charged £3000 (£1000 per change)!
Not happy with this I complained to the Factory sales department and was initially told the new computer system being used did not allow changes to be made under any circumstances once the specification had been submitted. When querying why such a penalty was necessary if changes couldn’t be made it transpired that the old system was still being used which did allow for change. The penalty was in place to ensure that customer and dealers got it right first time in preparation for the change of system, as when it is fully operational then that will be that.
Unhappy I wrote letters to the Managing Director (three in fact) and the Chairman of Morgan Technologies. No direct response was received from either.
A subsequent telephone conversation with the Commercial Director explained that the Factory Build book for my car had to be rewritten which was expensive. I asked if I might have a copy having paid such a high price. It’s an interesting document, which as you know traces the development of the car from start to finish, but it remains the property of the MMC. Instead I was offered a photo build book, not originally asked for and the specification was further amended to include this. Thank you but I would rather have the £1000 returned!
Anyway we have a car with which we’re very pleased - it’s the car we should have had when we sold our 20 year old black 4/4!
Finally I have to thank BHM for their support throughout and for kindly sharing the penalty charge with me but after 40 years of Morgan ownership this will be the last car I purchase from MMC.
