Mine is now five years old, regularly topped up by a Banner trickle charger.

How long before replacement necessary I wonder?

Cheers

You should never attempt to summon the battery genie. It will never end well.
Having said that, my Roadster battery is on year 11, and MrsW's Polo battery is on year 12.

My aero battery is now 10 years old, I plan to change it regardless before taking it to the LeMans classic.

Mine Banner Battery failed the day I was leaving for the tunnel to go to Germany . I replaced it whilst in Germany . My car was 2 years old. The battery had a dead cell .

A bit disappointing when I too had it on a CTEK trickle charger all the time.

I think some cars also have a bigger drain such as Aero range as the REC and other systems power up each time you blink. I now carry an antigravity mini boost pack which got me out of trouble loads of times and it can also charge your phone

A famous Morgan racer once told me. "Every risk you can eliminate makes you more successful"

New Battery and Boost Pack - you then have all bases covered !

Thank you TM's - It seems "in the lap of the gods" - so will press on until it fails.

Cheers

This afternoon I've been exploring Banner Batteries. They don't make it easy to find them, and most battery retailers don't include Morgan in the options drop down.

It seems that 'recent' cars have the Banner 50 200 Uni Bull, which is 58Ah and CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) of 450A. Dimensions are 241x175x175mm and I checked this with a tape earlier.

I found a limited number for sale on line, some at buttock clenching prices.
Here's a decent price though - £80 but the length of guarantee isn't mentioned.
https://www.tayna.co.uk/065-075-078-092-097-Banner-Uni-Bull-Battery-50200-P9656.html

A comparable VARTA is the D21 (075) Silver Dynamic at 61Ah and CCA of 600A with a five year guarantee at £44.97.
Dimensions are 242x175x175 and I don't think the extra 1mm length will be a problem.
Here:

There's a Black Dynamic here with a bit less performance - 53Ah and CCA 470A and only a 3 year guarantee but at £43.72 the difference in price is so small that the silver spec is a much better bet.

Once again invaluable advice on TM.
As suggested by ex-biker, I checked the date of the Banner battery on the Aero, and it is the original. I've ordered a new one from Tanya.
Thanks, Dave! wine

I thought I'd add to this thread!

This morning my Roadster battery failed on start up. I can't grumble as its now 12 years old, but it was inconvenient as I had promised a potential Morgan buyer a ride.

The fuel pump primed, the starter made half an effort, and then the whole dashboard went dead.

So at 0800hrs I had to do a double shuffle and take Tigger instead.

When I got back. it was the prefect opportunity to workshop test my DB Power jump start module, which is no bigger than a mobile phone.

Well, the good news is that the Roadster started easily, the battery pack ran the car, even with lights on, but the speedo was dancing like a mad thing.

After this, I tested the battery pack and it was still fully charged.

I've just ordered a new Banner from the link I posted earlier, from Tayna. Delivery on Tuesday, when there will be a "How to".......... grin2

I use a "Odyssey 680". It is he size of a College Dictionary. Lasted 8 years and I retired it for a new "Odyssey". It sits on the scuttle just above the starter. While trying to start during Ignition issues last weekend I had plenty of reserve power. I wonder if this battery is available in the UK?
