What do you consider the best steering wheel for a Trad Morgan ( no PAS)?
Sticking with Moto-lita ideally but a wood rim with rivets or without rivets or a leather covered version?
Which would you choose?
Or maybe the standard factory plastic effort ( the one that looks like its escaped from a 1990s Fiesta?)

I am considering the leather one as while I like the woodrim I find it uncomfortable on long runs.

I've had two leather ones that were great. The Roadster came with a wood rim one with rivets. I thought I wouldn't like it but in reality it is excellent now I am used to it & sets the car off very well

Either a wood and rivets moto lita or a Bluemels Wheel, on both my Plus 4 and the AH I have gone for the thick rim version, it's perfect for me but every owner has their personal choice, need to try a few but for looks alone has to be wood and rivets I think.

Had wood and rivets Motolita on the old Morgan with a thin rim. It proved to be less than comfortable on a long drive. Stuck with the standard Morgan thing on the current car. From outside the car it doesn't look great, but once inside the view down the bonnet more than compensates.

I have a Momo wheel since almost two years and I'm very happy with the feel. (no better pic found). I also love Motolita wheels but then I wanted something different.

Looks good Heinz I'm on my third wheel in 3 years Went all out on a very traditional looking large Moto Lita 16 inch with the thicker rim, dark walnut stain, rivets, 4 spoke with holes

Although I like the look of a polished alloy wood rim wheel I find the reflections in the screen or directly into my eyes just too much. So I went for a leather rim black alloy Motolita. Much nicer to drive with. Cheers John

I've got a thicker rimmed wooden Moto Lita with slightly smaller diameter than standard. I find it very comfortable. Next time you're up in Bedfordshire pop in and have a look.

I have a thin Moto Lita wood with rivet wheel. Felt different at first but after a while not really noticed, both Mogs owned have had them.I am in the process of getting a leather Moto Lita to swop.
The wooden one looks great but I want a thicker leather one to give a different feel with the option to swop if desired.
In the end it is down to personal choice.

Wooden wheels look the part, but a leather wheel is much nicer to use IMHO.

I plumped for the thicker, dished, wood rim. It's certainly more comfortable than my previous thinner one.

I've got a Moto Lita Type 9 (thick wood, no rivets) on mine. Never hand any issue with, I find it very comfortable over long distances.

After sourcing the correct hub and machining a distance piece, I have now fitted a Nardi classic wood rim steering wheel which is a work of art in itself and the bonus is that I don't catch the wiper control stalk accidentally.

Wood looks good, especially Stewart's, gorgeous! but leather for me every time. The Alcantara Momo wheels are nice too IMHO!

I have to admit it was me Dave, I was in the process of leaving it parked at Reading railway station (cheaper parking), being picked up by the rest of the family to go to Ascot for the Red Bull Air Race a couple of years ago. The car was jammed full of gear as I travelled onto Kent afterwards for a visit to one of our daughters - it was when I met you at BHM open day and you had Mrs D with you also. Well you have to make sure it still fits once in a while..

A wooden rim wheel looks best, but requires driving gloves.  My 15 inch wheel inspires me to avoid gaining weight, or else I cannot get into the car  Harald

My wife specified the interior colours after the whole family had agreed on having the same exterior colour as our first Morgan. I have a Moto-Lita offset leather covered wheel. The offset feature means I can read the speedo across its entire range and it makes it easier to get in and out of the car.

A question, if I may from 4/4 experts. Is this wheel spaced out on the column? Driving the car had the wheel very close to me (the seat was not right back as I had a passenger behind).   Not particularly comfortable in this position. Tim

It certainly looks a lot further from the dash than on my car, but since mine's a pre-1997 short door it's not a good comparison.

Tim, Williams do a shorter boss which will bring the wheel closer to the dash. Not sure what year yours is but worth trying them.

Your car Tim looks a similar model and year to mine (2000 4 seater) and that steering boss looks much longer then mine
It looks very nice in machined ali, by the looks of it, but quite a bit longer

Thanks Jays & Stewart for replies. The Williams boss actually looks identical to this, so maybe it is to extend the wheel rather than shorten it. It is a very fine 2000 car I'm currently looking at, possibly to replace my M3W. Importantly, my wife can get in and out easily.

This is all very interesting.
I think I have the long boss as well - maybe that's why it feels a bit tight, even for me.
I have a leather Mota Lita.

Apparently, talking to Mike at Williams, that boss is designed to match the large hole in the indicator binnacle. There are shorter bosses, but they would leave a gap at the base. Might be a case for making a lot of swarf one day, or maybe Mota Lita have a solution.

Tim The one in your photo is the standard Motolita one that most dealers including Williams, stock. Williams also had a much slimmer boss made for them by motolita which is designed to bring the wheel closer to the dash and with a flange which hides the ugly gap on the later column shrouds.

I have that boss on my Roadster, although I fitted a leather collar to stop the reflection in the windscreen. This boss was fitted by BHM to my 4/4 Anniversary. It looks slighty shorter, but the column shroud is different. The benefit of this boss is that it fills the hole in the shroud, as Jay mentioned above.

As promised, so here is my Moto Lita wheel. It is a Mark Four Leather (Flat) and was £230 including the boss. More surprisingly, it is a 13inch diameter. That goes some way to explaining the heaviness, before having steering bearings fitted this year. And it does stick out a fair way due to the long boss. Good job I am not challenged in any physical department...

Fitted a MotoLita leather last night. Went for a short trip to town this morning. A very nice feel compared to the thin wooden one. It is the flat 15" one with the hole spokes like the one in the photo above and no clearance issues. I like it. Feels more substantial and comfortable. A thick wooden one would be ok I think. The wooden ones look great and I did get used to it and gloves improved the feel, but the leather is more tactile. You can't beat a bit of leather! Thanks to aTM'er for selling it!

It's all down to seat position. Having driven the car again that I described above, with the seat back and also more reclined, I found it acceptably comfortable, especially with my R elbow out.

All this talk over steering wheels 🙄. It's made me take off my Brooklands wheel on a modified Williams boss and replace it with my 14" leather rimmed Motolita on a similar boss. I can now clearly see the revcounter and it is slightly larger diameter than the Brooklands. Nice!

I must say the the visibility of the tachometer and speedo was hopeless with wheel up and only marginally better with it down. Hey ho, I suppose that will encourage a new dash a few years down the line....
