Following on from Stewart's saga, and because I'm doing the valance job on my Roadster, today I had a closer look at my rack gaiter.

The two concertina sections can rest in one of two places in the straight ahead position.

This is the nearside. As you can see, the gaiter is resting over to the left in the image, and is rubbing up against the metal plate.

This is the offside. The gaiter is resting over to the left and is touching the rack mounting.

So I've cut some neoprene buffers, which fit on the side of the rack mountings.

Just visible here with the gaiter pulled out of the way - offside.

Against the rack brackets its not so easy, so all I've done is to add a short strip of neoprene. It may not stick very long but we'll see how it goes. Visible here either side of the rack bracket.

Good photos Dave. On my car it was the nearside one that the rubbing centre bracket plate caused the split. The cut neoprene inserts look a good option. That small plate is the culprit on my set up. thumbs

Thanks Dave
I think I will have a more detailed look when I replace mine and see if I can look to avoid it splitting again in the future

Well done Dave, something else I've got to look for when under the machine.
I wonder how many "normal" cars have potential problems like this but we all go blindly along not even thinking about it. I'm sure Morgan aren't the only ones.

Here for a good time not a long time!!
