I discovered, quite by accident, that the right roll hoop, while fixed in place and will not leave, rattles around the 3,000 mark near when the torque is at its highest and the engine is relatively slow. I have had the luggage rack installed and keep an umbrella snugged to the hoops and the rack with a bungee tie down. That damped the racket so when I removed the umbrella and finally the luggage rack the rattle was loud. The hoop is bolted in place but it is not necessarily a tight fit so there is movement. Remove the boot tray and access is there. Remove the hoop and squeeze in some silicone caulk then replace the hoop should fix the problem.

I am always amazed at just how much this car is a kludge...

My feeling is that Morgan owes all of us t-shirts proclaiming we are beta-test personnel.

I'm still burned that we had to pay for the so-called 'Comfort Pack' for the bump steer. Now that was a truly recall worthy FUBAR!

As owners of an early 2012 variant, we consider ourselves alpha testers...but overall happy ones...

This is a follow-up to my post on 13th September.
We have now removed the roll hoop that was rubbing against the bodywork. As you can see from the mark left by the rubber grommet, the hoop has been way off-centre in the bodywork hole.

The paint has been worn off the roll hoop and the rubber grommet has been worn away.
Obviously all this rubbing and scraping caused quite a bit of noise when the car was being driven.

The roll hoop was a bit of a pig to remove. It is a loose fit within the chassis guides, BUT the tubes partially distort as the fixing bolts are tightened which effectively means that you are trying to get an oval tube out of a round hole. We (very carefully) used a small scissor jack under the hoop to persuade it to come loose.

The plan now is to elongate the hole by just enough to enable us to fit a new grommet.

Well done Andy.
I gave up trying to get my roll hoop out - I believe I have the same issue - I have one side of the rim of the grommet disappearing into the hole so was trying to center it and gave up after a couple of hours.
Could you do a pic of where you had the scissor jack ?
Please keep the pictures and commentary coming, and where you get the replacement grommet from.

Thanks
Graham

Well Graham, I do hesitate to post this photo, but you did ask...

A better method would be to use a ratchet strap from above but while I was fetching the necessary aparatus, my assistant had done the job with his scissor jack. In any case, he was successful!

Both the roll hoop ends and the chassis tubes were crushed to an oval shape and especially distorted around the bolt holes which made them tricky to refit. We used a long half-round file to take off the worst of the burrs around the bolt holes (on the insides of the chassis tubes) and also encouraged the outer hoop receptacle into a 'more round' shape with the aid of a G-cramp. This, combined with a liberal coating with Waxoyl allowed the hoops to slide into position reasonably easily.

The rubber grommets are fairly inexpensive Morgan parts.

[Note that version 5.2 of the Morgan parts manual is incorrect as it has these descriptions reversed!]

I had a similar tinny rattle which I found was the aluminium locating tongues on the lower rear seat virbrating against the rear bulkhead,I fitted a cut section of small inner tube over the tongues which cured the problem!

Worth checking the position of roll hoops with respect to accomodating holes in body whether rattle or not. Just before I sold mine a complete re-spray of rear bodywork under warranty had been agreed. The offside hoop had been touching the bodywork as with Bunny's car. Water had then crept under paint and started lifting it in surrounding area frown
