I don't know if it's of interest to anyone, but I've recently installed this circuit in my M3W. Not earth-shattering but it is useful for absent-minded individuals like me! It’s a pretty simple and inexpensive circuit that is straightforward to install. It is much easier to access the rear of the headlamp switch if you remove the panel behind the instruments (accessed from under the front cowl). The use of piggyback connectors means that you are not modifying the existing wiring and makes this an easily reversible modification. Obviously you will need to source a suitable enclosure – I used one that I had lying around which was 10x6x2.5cm and all the components fitted comfortably inside. The earth was picked up on the rear of the dash panel (on the bolt to the left of the fog light switch). The potentiometer was wound fully clockwise which means that there is easily enough time for the engine to be started before the sidelights switch on. If you think you might need to leave the car parked with the sidelights switched on then I suggest that the isolation switch is fitted, otherwise the warning buzzer might get a bit annoying!

When installing driving lamps and fog lamps in my Mini Cooper i used a relay to provide power to them. The relay would only do that if the ignition was on, therefore if ignition is off so were the lamps. No buzzer necessary, and for those that are hard of hearing, like myself, the buzzermight just sound like another big tinnitus buzz. But i bet Helga would hear it😊

This is more sophisticated than my simple "lights on and ignition off" buzzer, clever stuff. I like the auto "DRL lights on" after the timer interval as well, although I have now got into the routine of turning the sidelights / DRL's on after starting. Another thing for next winters servicing.

I mostly run with the side lights on as under the half tonneau its hard to see the speedo without.
