Does anyone know if the tailpipe of the standard 2012 model 4/4 can be simply replaced with the side exit exhaust end pipe which exits in front of the drivers side rear wheel.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe (but may be wrong) that the part number is AER 4200 and this 'tailpipe' is used on the 80th anniversary models and factory specified side exhausts?

I'm afraid I don't know about the 4/4, but if it's anything like the ARP4, it is quite doable. I have just removed the quite heavy rear section with twin central tailpipes, and replaced it with a section of pipe with a bend in it, exiting just ahead of the rear wheel. This was made from a bit of scrap s/s pipe by a local exhaust manufacturer, I offered to pay but he wouldn't hear of it. Nice.

Thanks Paul, On the factory 4/4 side exit end pipe, the existing rear exhaust hanger just in front of the back wheel is used for mounting and the corresponding bracket for mounting the side exit pipe is part of the side exit pipe. Sorry I cant post a photo of the part but I've seen it on Rutters parts diagram! It could either be an easy swap using the factory part or a fabrication job!

I'm pretty sure that the 4/4 and my +4 use the same exhaust hanger, which is what I've used to support the side pipe, as well as an exhaust clamp further up the pipe.

Hi Paul, Sounds like a similar job however the centre box of an ARP4 could be different than a 4/4!
I only have 13cm (5 and 1/4 inches) between the end of the actual exhaust box and the centre of the bobbins of the rear hangar which makes me think that the factory side exit exhaust has a shorter exhaust box.
Could anyone with an 80th Anniversary of factory side exit exhaust measure the distance between the end of the box and center of the bobbins? Mine is 13cm. Thanks Rob

Yes, the factory 'sports' mid section box is shorter than the standard 4/4 exhaust. On my car ('12 4/4 with Aero racing side exit exhaust system) the distance from the end of the exhaust box and the centre of the cross bracket between the bobbins is 37.6cm.

Hi Stuart
Thanks for the information. It seems like an exhaust box would be required in addition to the side exit pipe if I want factory spec, or alternatively fabricate a side exit pipe and fabricate a bracket attached to it to support the rear of the exhaust bearing in mind there is limited room with the existing standard exhaust box.
Neither are as straightforward as I though so I will have to give this some thought!

Hi Rob.
Correct conclusions. I have a 4/4 with the standard length factory box and managed to get a side exit just forward of the rear wheel. Using the existing bracket is possible but space is tight. The factory side exit has a nice angle to it, without use of the shorter silencer you'll likely end up with a right angle. It works ok however. Sound is closer to your ear so that's great if you want a bit of "character" to the noise.
I did it to get a better exhaust note. If thats what you have in mind I think a better route would be a Librands sports silencer and back box exiting out the back. It gives a much richer, fruiter throaty sound than the standard box with a side exit in my experience. That's what I ended up with and am delighted with it.
Maybe the factory shorter silencer as per 80th edition cars with swept side pipe would be good also?

This is a shot of the ss fabricated side exit on my +4 Supersports, Standard box used and notice the intricate double bend. extends just in front of wheel and about 1" outside running board..just enough to catch and burn your ankles (once!!) 2 hours work £75 at local exhaust fabricator.
