Keep seeing cars with Cibie spot lamp covers on.

Is driving around with the covers on the thing to do and remove them if there is an hint of fog, or take them off when you buy the car and put them away in a drawer and forget about them?

Is it something that might get nicked I wonder if left on?

Suppose that would end the quandary anyway.

It is a Schroedinger's cat example: just because you see them doesn't mean they are really there....

Many many years ago Cibie Oscars were a badge of honour on most youngsters cars if you were a bit of a petrol rally head, very nickable at the time as most of my mates had at least 2 or Maybee 4 fitted to a wheezing dynamo. Nowadays youngsters wouldn't Know the covers come off so why worry about it, I think the plus 6 might come with the slightly naff cibie version not the full fat Super Oscars....Em

Oh yes, had to have 4 Super Oscars (with covers) hanging off the front of a proper Mini in the 70's, they made it go faster you know laugh2

Couldn't afford Oscars or Super Oscars for the Land Rover IIa, but it did have extra drive lamps, fog lights and latterly even a pair of drive lamps roof mounted above the windscreen. Used to marshal the odd night rally / 12 car in those days. Little point fitting decent long range lamps - the light range would have been well above the vehicle performance! laugh2

I put spots on the crash bars on my Honda CB360. When you switched them on the bike lost speed but at least you could see ahead.

Memories! I recall riding my Royal Enfield 250 in the late 1960s.
Following a car on a dark misty night, enabled me to have some vision, despite the terrible headlamp.
Suddenly the car stopped in a narrow lane. The driver jumped out and demanded to know why I was following.
I explained the appalling headlamp on the Enfield at which point he said “ but you’re in my driveway”
