Just about to replace the bulkhead bonnet tape. Suprised to see that the old tape is one continuous strip which goes under the brass bonnet fixing. The last one that I did had two separate pieces, one either side of the bonnet.

I don't expect that there is a right way, but what is the most usual, one continuous strip or two pieces?

Mine have always been in 2 bits.

When I replaced mine it came as a single length kit that is cut to length. It was long enough to replace all 4sections - bulkhead x 2 plus cowl x 2.
Bulkhead sections were easy to do. Cowl needs drilling out of rivets to remove the old, remember to use washers at rear of rivets when re-fitting to make sure they grip the new tape. Petroleum jelly then rubbed in for lube. The only awkward bit is riveting the wing ends as they are tucked away under the cowl and getting the washers in place is a bit of a fiddle.

Just about to do mine....I am thinking of using exterior double sided adhesive tape to fix the bulkhead tapes as the tacks seem to continue to come out and churn up the bonnet. Looking at a new car in showroom they appear to be stuck on any how. How are yours fixed?

The tacks are carpet tacks it doesn't seem right..

I replaced the rivets with a screw and nut.

So did I and I used chrome leather strips instead of textile.

You could also use neoprene.

Thanks for all the replies, already done the cowl as I had to take it off to remove the radiator for repair.

The existing bulkhead tape is held in place with copper tacks but the replacement has come with stainless panel pins. I have seen one car with small stainless screws which I thought might rub the bonnet but which seemed OK and looked tidy, so I'm still not sure how I will secure mine.

Use double furrow tape the nails go inbetween ( sort of hides them ) on the bulkhead and cowl and its thicker by far .

Heres another method to consider, i used black silicone to stick the bulkhead tape down and applied Polycell self adhesive draught excluder to the underside of the bonnet.
No tacks or rivets and the bonnet paint is protected by the soft draught excluder.
I used a narrow 'P' profile straight out of the packet in its double width form so it makes a wide seal. No vaseline or grease required and is cheap to replace if it ever wears out. Also makes up for uneven gap between bulkhead and bonnet but compresses easily
