Moderate or good, occasionally poor

I've swapped my Morgan...

...for a week anyway. My youngest daughter is a huge VW camper-van fanatic so as a reward for finishing her GCSE's I've rented a 1963 split-screen. Having guided it back over the South Downs this afternoon on a route I regularly drive in the Morgan, I can say it is a very different driving experience!

I have a friend who has one & is very committed to the vehicle. Each to his own I suppose

Lovely VW, brings back memories of my split screen right hooker I had in my miss-spent youth when I regularly surfed in North Devon. Sadly my parents insisted I got it out of their garage after 18 months, I did not have the money to do engine, brakes and some chassis work. I drove it to the local scrap yard. ooo

I have a real soft spot for these vans, for no particular personal reason. I doubt we would ever have one, but they are so full of character.
There was a good two part documentary on 'Movies for Men' a few weeks ago, so now MissW is at a loose end, she could watch out for the repeat.

That is really lovely and I can greatly admire it but I know I wouldn't want to own one.

Yes I think we tend to forget with the passage of time quite how slow they were and how crap the brakes were on these older "romantic" vehicles. Ownership not an attractive option.
The differential between todays ABS EBD equipped cars is astonishing.

I remember my old split screen well ... a little sluggish I think it had a 1200cc engine. The day came to sell it and a Hippy chap pitched up beads .. caftan .. long hair etc hippy insisted we seal the deal on his peace pipe cloud9 ... the rest as they say is history . Remember whats said on TM stays on TM innocent
