I vote for stainless wires. I would never us a pressure cleaner on the paintwork but a spray with a wheel cleaner followed by a rinse with the pressure cleaner and they look like new. The pressure cleaner with just plain water will remove gunk and even tar spots and will never harm the stainless. After I dry the rims with a microfibre cloth so that there are no water marks.

The six year old alloys on the Alfa won't come clean without serious work. True I have not looked after them but I tried to clean them today and I have decided I am going to have to buy some special brushes to do the job.
