Following from my light hearted Mk 1 roadster topic, I'd like to ask this next question in seriousness.
There appears to be plenty of space above my engine. Bearing in mind my old plus 8 had the air intake across the top of the engine and mmc had had to bash it with a hammer to fit it in.....why couldn't I just add some spacers to the engine mountings thus raising the whole engine a couple of inches - it looks simple enough. Also, I was told that the engines are lower to allow pedestrians to land on the bonnet and have space to crush it before hurting themselves on the engine......is there any truth in it?

All true about the pedestrains, all new cars require it for type approval.
