Tony, I'm surprised that you can get such a quantity of water down to the plugs- don't the plug covers seal off the tubes. I guess my older Zetec has a similar arrangement and I've never had that problem.
I'm sure I've seen some posts on here about keeping the water out when washing the car, I'm sure someone will come up with a solution.
