My 3.9 +8 of similar age also rumbled and also occasional high pitch squeal from top end
. This was always after standing for 2+ weeks in garage or first start up from cold after a long (100m+) hot journey. Seemed to be lack of oil in the first 3/4 seconds then all was ok. Regular oil changes ensured that at least the best oil was being used and I lived with it.
