You can upgrade. You'll need the Librands or Aero exhaust and it's been mentioned here that there will be a new chip available for the ECU at some point. This will deliver the 300bhp. I doubt there's anything done to the engine other than remapping on the chip.
In terms of the magazine - my background is media.
Independent publishing companies produce magazines on behalf of brands - this is known as 'Contract Publishing'. All in-flight magazines are published this way - they're not owned by the airline, but are published on behalf of the airline and the profits shared.
Each deal is differently underwritten - depending on the magazine and brand.
I don't know if the magazine is contract published - I suspect it is.
