I have solved it (temporarily) with gaffer tape. There is still a lot of play in the linkages which means that the 'rest' position of the wipers varies.
My plan is the following.
1. driving enjoying the sun
2. see what happens withe the chrome arms when/if they arrive
3. try to make it tighter by using what in Italy is named "teflon tape" (PTFE tape???)
