I’ve succumbed to my lifelong passion for Morgans - again. You’d think that on the verge of my 71st birthday I’d have learned some sense – but no. A visit to the factory last month, a seat in a racing Plus 8 at the Donington test day and a close examination of 7 Morgans belonging to ‘JockMog’ members at a show in Blairgowrie convinced me to rejoin the fold. My first Morgan was a 4/4 series 2 that was rallied, hill climbed, sprinted and used for grass track racing back in the early 1960’s - quite apart from use as daily transport. My second one was a Plus Four Plus (number 22 in the production run - chassis no A5908) which saw a few outings in sprints and races at Ingliston in the late 1960s. The circle is now complete. I collect my December 2011 4/4 on Tuesday and can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to it. Far better to have that in the garage and get some fun driving it than watching my investments disappear down the plughole – and paying someone else for the privilege!
