Thanks for all the advice & tips - sadly, I can't do any brake-bashing as the car is 150 miles away at RPM. In fairness, I should perhaps give a bit of background: the 'remedial work' is being done under warranty, fortunately, as there's 3 issues: Corroded windscreen pillars, non-working speedo & washer pump. The brake issue came up up as a result of the speedo problem, the sender on the OSF wheel had rotted away...
The lesson I have learned is : outdoor Carcoons are A WASTE OF MONEY! Won't be using THAT again!
BTW the cost of the brake rebuild is £350 for pads, discs, springs & labour @£70 per hour,inc. VAT. I'll live with it..
