"A lot of movement" can't be right?
If anything should go there I would expect it to be an oilite thrust washer. Sometimes gearbox thrust washers come in a selection of thicknesses to suit variations in casing size - but I don't have any experience of the Moss box.
Is the laygear OK for end float?
