Broadening the accessibility is good business sense, lightening would allow different taxation, but the obvious 'upgrade' would be to answer many peoples concerns about steering & noise.
It also raises other issues, such as exactly much of the hair shirt do you remove to please complaints before you end up with a three wheeled Honda..? Excellent engineering, but ultimately bland.
