Why do the factory continue to fit short senders? Anyone had an answer? I carry a spare gallon in the back now, just in case I don't fill up in time, it will give me another 30 miles to find a fuel station.

My first car was a 1932 Austin 7*. It had a five-gallon, petrol tank, in front of the scuttle, that fed the carburetter by gravity. There was no fuel gauge; instead there was a rather fine calibrated dipstick. I wish the M3W were so equipped - it may have been crude but you knew how much fuel was left.
