Early to mid August is the time Earth moves through the remnants if a comet tail.
The result is that particles come into our atmosphere at some incredible pace and burn up producing shooting stars (known as the Perseid shower) visible to the naked eye.
Peak display is 11th - 13th August, but this year that coincides with a full moon, so start looking now. The picture is one I took last year.
If we have a pleasant clear night, and you are blessed with low light pollution, go into the garden (a glass of something pleasant adds to the experience)
and look at the darkest part of sky. If you are patient you should see a shooting star every few minutes.
