Mine comes off regularly so I carry an allen key with me for a quick roadside fix.
Over the winter I'm going to drill some indents into the gear lever so the grub screws positively locate into them and loctite the little buggers in.
Had to do that on my series 3 Alfa Spider, worked a treat.
