Thanks for the comments - Burgandymog, your narrow body +4 looks really good. Made me think and investigate 'narrow bodies'.
I may have a clearance problem to get on our drive so my understanding that a 4/4 or a narrow body +4 with slightly better ground clearance (correct?) may be better bet for us. Will have to try before I buy as getting a car and finding it won't go up the drive would be slightly embarrassing.
The standard tyres fitted to a 4/4 give 16mm more ground clearance than the standard tyres fitted to a Plus 4. If ordering a new car I'm sure wheel and tyre sizes could be specified to give you maximum ground clearance if you need it. I still have the 195/60 tyres on the Plus 4 and we sometimes touch on the peak of the driveway going to our underground garage. Fitting 195/65 would give 10mm more clearance.
