With a Morgan, normal does not always apply. The starter motor is dependant on the Bell housing, not the motor or the gearbox.
I had an issue with my 1988 CVH motor, and in the end I had to pick a second hand bell housing to suit both motor and gearbox and then i had the correct starter motor.
