Looking at the 2L GDI installation on my BMW320 the air to air intercooler is quite large, about 1m wide by only about 20cm tall, it runs along the front of the car under the radiator.
The car runs no hotter than the 4.8L engine in the Plus 8, both seem to be cooler than the Roadster in terms of waste hear lost from the engine.
If MMC can mount the 1.6L Ecoboost well back in the car there should be enough room to fit a similar area intecooler, possible at an angle so it pickus up cold air from under the car and vents through the existing bonnet louvres..
It could be an absolute peach!!
Now all it needs is a chhd, stiff chassis...
