About a month ago we received a package of some of the broken bits from engine #4 on our Lancaster. You may recall that #4 had a meltdown while landing at Middleton St. George back in August. The photo shows a chunk of broken impeller blade from the supercharger on #4. The supercharger was the root of the problem. A bearing failed and it just got worse from there on.
An RAF Hercules transport made a stop at the Warplane Heritage Museum a couple of weeks ago and the Merlin on loan from the BBMF was loaded on board and headed for home. The rebuild on our engine should be complete and the engine back in Canada this coming April.
