Guys, dropping the oil via the drain plug is very messy, why not pop off the oil filter? With care it should unscrew, empty and refit and the seal should be fine, if not an oil filter costs a lot less than a sump full of oil.


I always thought you should fill and oil filter before fitting.....??


Hi Richard, yes, it's good practice to prime the oil filter prior to fitting to avoid those few seconds on initial start up after an oil and filter change whilst the filter fills, however as a fix and a one off its not going to cause a problem, as the car has run after the initial oil and filter change then all the galleries will have been filled, it's the lesser of two evils and a very high percentage of filters are fitted without priming anyway...not all mechanics take this care!
