In a word - NO. A dog is like a child who never grows up and effectively ritualises your life into 'walkies', feeding, grooming, paying vets bills etc etc. We are far too selfish to tolerate this. We need the freedom to go where we want when we want - especially now MissW has left home! Sorry Dave, in my world a friendly dog is worth a lot more than a shiny mog.
