Why not cut out the middle and go straight to steam power. After all we burn fossil fuels to make electricity that is then transported on copper wires to re-charge a car in 4 hours so that it can go 100 miles.
A nice methane powered flash boiler, a nice little triple expansion engine, bring her up to pressure in a few minutes and away you go. Main advantage would be that you would always have boiling water for a nice cuppa.

I like it. Of course, the downside is having to get the boiler pressure-tested and certificated every year, with an expensive ultrasound test every few years.
