I’d not thought of the headlight rim being over sized, but I think it is the answer, when I tighten the fixing screw the rim pops off the plastic mounting ring. The idea of a neoprene strip is the answer, as is the idea of marking where the screw fits before you put the rim back on! The car is a 2013/14 model Plus 4. It’s coming up to the end of warranty so I will take it up with the dealer, but it may be easier to sort it myself. All part of the fun!
I will tell you of our experience coming back to Calais for the Channel Tunnel earlier this year. We came down onto the dual carriageway leading to the port straight into a traffic jam of mostly lorries. We were immediately surrounded by dozens of migrants, one of which jumped on our luggage rack. Fortunately the traffic moved and he came off as I pulled sharply away. They tell you to keep your doors locked and windows up, but this does not help much in a Morgan. We had the hood down and felt very vulnerable. Fortunately no damage was done, the rack and mountings are quite sturdy. Would immigration have missed someone sitting on the luggage rack I wonder?
Thank you all again for your welcome.
Denny,
first, welcome to this place, it is all rather fun!
As to the headlight trims the fit tends to be a bit "floppy". I fitted an inner lining of neoprene, much as DW suggested. Not only do the trims fit better, but it hides the "Morgan Whistle", which seems to be caused by air going between the headlamp unit and trim.
As to Calais: I've had other stories about the audacity of those who want to come to the UK: climbing into pickup trucks and in once case getting onto the roof of an estate car and holding on to the roof rack. He had overlooked the panoramic roof, which made it all rather obvious.
Until this is all over I'll stick to the Portsmouth/Le Harvre fast ferry, I think. From Salisbury it is very easy, if expensive-ish.
