If you ever fly out of Southampton airport I believe (not verified) that the current runway was the field they did the first flight tests from. I believe the factory was where the railway marshalling yards are now ?
When I was at Warsash/Southampton Institute (now Solent Uni) one of the buildings I was lectured in was the R.J. Mitchell building...so could well be true.
