The 4 leaf springs are more supple than the original 5 leaf springs and the asymmetrical design is a relatively new design, from Dan White of Suplex, that reduces axle tramp.
I didn't think this was a new idea, I remember my friend putting some on his MGB V8 in the 70's. They had a limited life due to loss of Spring stiffness.
