There is no such thing as write off, only an uneconomical repair. if somebody is willing to put the time and money in to it any machine can be rebuilt. Some time it can be done for the satisfaction of being able to do it.
I totally agree, but you do need good basic engineering skills to recognise the correct way to produce a quality job. Cowboys and ignorance have got the repair business a really bad name in the publics eye.
